AFP/File PESHAWAR: With coronavirus claiming 36 more lives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the health department has said it will establish anti-virus vaccination centres in 17 more districts within three days. According to the department, eight vaccination centres will be set up in major hospitals, four in Category A hospitals, three in Category C hospitals and two in Category D hospitals. “The director general (health services) has issued directives for the activation of vaccination centres within three days and speedy vaccination of citizens aged 50 years and above,” an official said.

At present, the ratio of coronavirus positivity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reached 11%. According to health experts, the British strain of the virus has also been found in the province, which is also spreading fast.

Minister booked for hosting iftar dinner in restaurant - Newspaper

PESHAWAR: The City Police have booked health minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra for hosting an iftar dinner at a local restaurant in violation of Covid-19 standard operating procedures. The FIR, which also named the restaurant’s management, was registered by the Sarband police station early on Tuesday over a social media uproar, which erupted after pictures of the minister’s iftar party were widely shared online. Sarband police registered the FIR under sections 6 and 17 of the KP Epidemic Control and Emergency Relief Act, 2020, against provincial minister for health and management of the Hujra restaurant, where the iftar party was arranged. Section 6 of the law provides for the restrictions relating to the attendance in public places, schools and burials and declares that the violation carries punishment with an imprisonment for a term not exceeding two months or a fine not exceeding Rs50,000, or both.

Three hospitals burdened with Covid patients The K-P Health Department reported 584 new coronavirus cases throughout the province over the last 24 hours PESHAWAR: Three major hospitals of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa have been overburdened with coronavirus patients, a source in the provincial health department confirmed on Monday. However, 88 beds designated for Covid patients at Lady Reading Hospital, Khyber Teaching Hospital and Hayatabad Medical Complex remain vacant. 798 beds were allotted by the hospital administration for patients suffering with the prevailing virus out of which 681 are currently occupied. 66 patients have been placed on ventilators in the three largest hospitals of the province. According to the LRH spokesperson, 424 Covid patients are currently being treated there while 33 patients are admitted in the intensive care unit.
