Bad news for anyone suffering from one of those mysterious hums that are occurring around the world with no apparent cause nor obvious way to stop them. If you want to just go to a place where you can’t hear them, be prepared for a long trip – a really loooong trip. The Voyager 1 spacecraft, which left Earth in 1977 and left the solar system in 2012, recently picked up a mysterious hum some 14 million miles away from the planet. Does it have enough power left to stick its solar panels inside its audio intakes?
“We find au-scale density fluctuations that trace interstellar turbulence between episodes of previously detected plasma oscillations. Possible mechanisms for the narrowband emission include thermally excited plasma oscillations and quasi-thermal noise, and they could be clarified by new findings from Voyager or a future interstellar mission.”

MILWAUKEE (AP) When Laura Manriquez was 9 years old, her dad asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up. Her answer? A teacher, a nurse or a nun.
“In some way I’ve done a little bit of all of that,” Manriquez said, laughing.
She’s been a nurse for almost 25 years. She’s helped persuade politicians to offer treatment alternatives instead of incarceration for people suffering from substance abuse. She’s ran unsuccessfully for state Assembly five times. She’s survived COVID-19. And she continues to keep her neighbors and Texans fed during the pandemic.

For these efforts, many know her as âMilwaukeeâs Food Fairy,â âThe Urban Angel of Mercyâ or simply âthe helpful neighbor that surprises me.â But Manriquez, 55, said she does not do all of this for personal recognition, but rather because someone needs to do it.

Charlie Yook has overseen NFL Network’s draft production since 2014, but he has been a Bears fan for much longer.
At the 2017 NFL Draft in Philadelphia, Yook was watching the proceedings from where he always does, in the production truck. The Bears had traded with the 49ers to move up from the third overall pick to the second. Yook wondered aloud what general manager Ryan Pace was doing, but he tempered his consternation, saying, “As long as it’s not Mitch Trubisky, I’ll be fine.”
A perk of working behind the scenes is knowing teams’ selections before they’re announced. The production crew sets up the graphics and videos for each player to present to the audience. So when the producer sitting in front of Yook learned the Bears’ pick, he uttered, “Uh, oh,” turned around and said, “The pick is in. You’re not gonna like it.
