Road weather updates: Big Cottonwood Canyon closed; restrictions in Sardine Canyon © Provided by KUTV Salt Lake City Big Cottonwood Canyon is closed in both directions as of 4:45 p.m. Thursday, presumably due to road conditions and inclement weather.  The Utah Department of Transportation announced the closure is in place at the mouth of the canyon, impacting state Route 190. The closure in Big Cottonwood Canyon is due to multiple vehicle slide-offs, said Sgt. Melody Cutler with the Unified Police Department.  Initially, one car slid off the road and into the river. A UPD officer stopped to help that driver, and another car slid into the UPD officer s car.
