Girl, 14, Accused of Setting Serial Fires in Her Own Neighborhood

(© FlaglerLive) A 14-year-old resident of Palm Coast’s B Section and a student at Buddy Taylor Middle School was arrested Friday morning and charged with five felony counts over allegedly, maliciously starting fires at six locations that day, all of them in the B Section. The girl lives at a group home on Burgundy Place. The fires were set in vacant lots on Birchwood Drive, on Big Dipper Lane, at 1 Burgundy Place and two on Big Horn Drive, and a fence was damaged at 2 Burrell Place, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

14-Year-Old Charged After Setting Six Fires In Palm Coast s B-Section

Apr 10, 2021 2:38 PM Palm Coast, FL - A 14-year-old girl is charged with five counts of Reckless and intentional Burning of Lands, and one count of Felony Criminal Mischief over $1,000 after setting six fires in the B-section of Palm Coast last night (April 9). The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) said the fires were located on Birchwood Drive, Big Dipper Lane, Burgundy Place, Burrell Place, andtwo on Big Horn Drive. Under arrest is Nicole Jackson Maldonado. FCSO reports that already knew her from previous ecounters. The fires were started in wooded lots, spreading quickly, and coming very close to homes in some cases. At least eight fence sections were damaged at a home on Burrell Place and will need to be replaced. The City of Palm Coast Fire Department (PCFD) worked to limit the damage to wooded areas and nearby homes and put out the fires. Flagler Sheriff School Resource Deputy Christopher Alecrim (FCSO) The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) is proud to announce that School Resource Deputy (SRD) Christopher Alecrim, was selected by the National Sheriff’s Association (NSA) as Law Enforcement Explorer of the Year. This NSA committee appointed to judge the competition for this prestigious award selected SRD Alecrim to be the 2021 recipient. Deputy Chris Alecrim began his career with the FCSO in 2015 and transferred to the SRD Unit in 2018 and is currently stationed at the Flagler Palm Coast High School. Throughout his career with the FCSO, Deputy Alecrim has received multiple Unit Citations, Distinguished Service Certificates and Certificates of Appreciation for his service to the community. Surprise! Neighbors and sheriff help Eric Shorey celebrate 90th birthday

Nacie Somera, who, along with Daniel Graham, invited neighbors to wish Shorey a happy 90th on April 7, said she saw Shorey starting to ride out of his driveway on Baltimore Lane just before surprise guests were to arrive including Sheriff Rick Staly and the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office motorcycle unit. But she caught him in time, and Shorey enjoyed the attention from the community. Shorey was born in Barbados in 1931 and eventually served in the British Army. He went on to become an engineer.
