Earlier this month, Zachary Horwitz was arrested and charged with wire fraud in connection with running an alleged $690 million Ponzi scheme that included fake license rights agreements with Netflix and HBO. Now, investors have filed suit and are eyeing City National Bank s role.

MIT associate professors Desirée Plata and Justin Steil have been named recipients of the 2020-21 Harold E. Edgerton Faculty Achievement Award. The award’s selection committee chose to recognize both faculty members for their excellence in service, mentorship, and research that impacts critical societal challenges in environmental sustainability and social justice.
The annual Edgerton Faculty Award was established in 1982 as a tribute to Institute Professor Emeritus Harold E. Edgerton in recognition of his active support of junior faculty members. Each year, a committee presents the award to one or more non-tenured faculty members to recognize exceptional contributions in research, teaching, and service.

Mendi Riddle will be joining Bucyrus, Ohio-based insurer, Ohio Mutual, as vice president of Sales effective May 10, succeeding Howie Barber who is retiring in July.
Riddle has served in a number of senior sales and product roles at Nationwide Insurance over the past 15 years – including terms as VP of Field Sales and VP of Non-Standard Sales and Marketing. Previously, she gathered a decade of experience working with independent agents in operations, product, and project management at National General Insurance.
She carries the CLCS professional designation, and has served as an advisory board member for several industry vendors, including Transunion and ISO/Verisk.

Nina Burnett
AF Group has appointed Nina Burnett as director of investigative services. She will lead claim fraud investigations for an insurance group that specializes in workers’ compensation.
Burnett previously was director of health care investigations for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. Prior to that, she worked for 10 years as a special agent for the FBI, where she specialized in the investigation of health care fraud.
Burnett obtained a bachelor of arts degree in history from Columbia University and Juris Doctor degree from Columbia University School of Law. She holds several professional designations including Accredited Health Care Fraud Investigator (AHFI) and Certified Professional Coder (CPC).
