(KMIZ) The City of Columbia will host a community briefing to give an update on the current COVID-19 numbers and future plans of the Boone County health order. Scott Clardy, assistant director of the Columbia/Boone County Health Department, said when making updates to the health order, the city is focused on three main aspects. What we are focusing on moving forward are number of new cases that we see on a daily basis, hospitalizations, and the percentage of the population that is vaccinated, said Clardy. As of Friday, Boone County had 86 active cases and 1 hospitalization. Clardy said although we are still getting new cases every day, it has leveled out to a number last seen in July.

Back in April, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention started asking health departments to gather information on breakthrough infections, and counties across the state are seeing people test positive for COVID-19 after getting one or both doses of the coronavirus vaccine. However, local health officials are encouraged by the low reports of breakthrough infections, as well as hospitalizations and deaths.

(KMIZ) The fight against COVID-19 continues across the globe and health officials continue to say the strongest weapon is the coronavirus vaccine. Now that the vaccine is more widely available, the supply is starting to outpace the demand. Leaders across the country have been grappling with the idea of vaccine passports and other vaccination requirements to take part in public life. Here in Missouri, Gov. Mike Parson has made it clear he will not support vaccine passports or requirements of any type state-wide. The federal government has also stated it has no plans to require vaccinations to travel or access businesses.
