CSU Pueblo helping provide college education to youth in detention facilities CSU Pueblo has created a jailed youth class program to support their students. and last updated 2021-01-20 19:37:37-05 PUEBLO — Often times, youth serving sentences in facilities do not have access to college education, ultimately falling behind in society once released. Colorado State University Pueblo is helping change that. “Every student deserves an education,” said Kathryn Starkey, the Adult Learning Lead Specialist at the university. CSUP was approached by Colorado s Division of Youth Services about a year and a half ago, asking for help starting a program that would allow youths in their facilities long-term a way to get college credits. In the last year, the program has taken off. Over 20 students in facilities all across Colorado are actively taking courses through CSUP.

CSU Pueblo hosting virtual events to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr

Martin Luther King Jr. made an immeasurable impact on the United States and beyond. To celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Colorado State University Pueblo is set to host a celebration of his life and accomplishments on Monday. The university will host a virtual remembrance for the occasion. Students, faculty and the general public will be able to join. Events include a speech from CSUP President Timothy Mottet to start and Theresa Trujillo as a lunchtime speaker over Zoom at noon. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Pueblo Branch will not hold events this year. Instead, branch president Roxana Mack will speak as part of CSU Pueblo s events.
