Colorado Bill Proposing New Marijuana Restrictions Passes First Vote Unanimously

Some parents talked about how their teenagers slowly became hooked on various forms of marijuana concentrate, which now ranges from 50 percent to upwards of 90 percent THC, while other parents, whose children are medical marijuana patients, as well as adult patients testified that those same products are what they need to keep their lives comfortable. We re hearing more and more about how the market is changing away from traditional flower and toward concentrates, said House Speaker and bill sponsor Alec Garnett, adding that he s concerned that eighteen-year-old medical marijuana patients who haven t yet graduated are “using the loopholes in our system to divert product into the high school.”

Colorado leads nation for high rate of COVID cases, but infections, hospitalizations continue to drop

Colorado is leading the nation with the highest rate of new coronavirus cases over the past seven days, federal data shows. But COVID-19 metrics statewide are lower than at any point since March and far below fall spikes, some state experts counter. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention data show Colorado is seeing about 145 new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people on average over seven days. Alabama has the second highest rate of cases, followed by Maine and Minnesota. The state is far outpacing all of its neighbors for new cases; none are in the top 10. Colorado is averaging about 968 cases each day over the past week, according to state data. That s the lowest total since March and a 44% drop from the most recent peak on April 25. Hospitalizations, which have become a key metric in gauging the severity of the pandemic, have fallen steadily for 10 days; confirmed COVID-19 hospitalizations are down 23%, and suspected cases are down 29%.

More vaccinations, including in younger teens, could help Colorado reach 70% immunity, data says

More vaccinations, including in younger teens, could help Colorado reach 70% immunity, data says Federica Narancio/AP Pharmaceutical company Pfizer announced on its website that it had received permission from the Food and Drug Administration that they can enroll children as young as 12 in its COVID-19 vaccine trial. (Federica Narancio/AP) and last updated 2021-05-17 17:11:58-04 DENVER — Colorado health officials are projecting fewer COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations if more people continue to receive the vaccine heading into the summer, with the possibility of 70% immunity by August if transmission control efforts stay in place. The data released in the state s latest modeling report Friday underscored the importance of vaccine distribution in keeping cases and hospitalizations on a decline: The continued high levels of hospitalizations and infections are likely due to increased mobility and the spread of infection among the Coloradans who are not yet immune, the repor
