National Farmers Market Week starts Aug. 1 and continues through Aug. 7. To celebrate, the Colorado Farmers Market Association is organizing a statewide photo contest. CSU offers next animal science webinar

In a cold Sunday afternoon, Colby Townsend is feeding 3,000 Rhode Island Red hens that lay 14,700 brown eggs each week at Hayden Fresh Farm south of the small town of Hayden in northwest Colorado.
Small business co-owners Townsend and his wife, Michelle, have not been able to take a day off since mid-March last year when pandemic-related restaurant restrictions hit their wholesale accounts hard. In a rollercoaster business year, the couple worked 12 hours a day reacting to the changes necessary to keep the farm aloft.

The Colorado Farmers Market Association will hold a virtual Annual Conference on Friday, March 5, and Saturday, March 6, to give a behind-the-scenes look at markets’ function.
The conference is being held primarily for farmers market managers statewide but is open to anyone interested in understanding how the markets function. The conference will feature workshops and panels that will reflect on the challenges and successes of last year.
Additional topics being covered at the conference include preparing for the 2021 season and a keynote from Catt Fields White of Farmers Market Pros. The Colorado Farmers Market Association (CFMA) will also be offering sessions scheduled at other times that include Legislative Updates, Cottage Foods, Double up Food Bucks, a

Colorado Farmers Markets to host annual conference
The Colorado Farmers Market Association will hold its annual conference online March 5-6. Topics covered will include challenges and successes from 2020, game planning for 2021, farmers markets as business incubators and more. An equity and inclusion training will also be offered.
Online produce safety training offered
Colorado State University Extension, Rocky Mountain Farmers Union, Colorado Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association and Colorado Department of Agriculture will host an online-only Produce Safety Alliance Grower Training Course in two parts, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 25-26. This course provides a foundation on the FSMA Produce Safety Rule requirements, Good Agricultural Practices and co-management information, and details on how to develop a farm food safety plan. Registration is $35.
