Iranian movie ‘Bandar Band’ got the coveted Golden Royal Bengal Tiger trophy as the Best Film of the 26th Kolkata International Film Festival which concluded on Friday. The Manijeh Hekmat directed road movie, which follows the journey of three musicians across a flooded landscape to attend a music competition in Tehran, got a cash award of Rs 51 lakh along with the trophy. Artykpai Suiundukov bagged the Best Director crown for ‘Shambala’ from Kyrgyzstan and Rs 21 lakh as prize money.

Kolkata: Iranian film-maker Manijeh Hekmat has been in Kolkata and intends to make a film on India someday. She believes that India is one of few countries where you can place your camera in every corner and you’ll have images and, ultimately, cinema .
Her personal film career is long and eventful. In 1995, she began working as a producer. In 2002, she directed her debut feature titled ‘Women’s Prison’ on the situation of Iranian women prisoners. The film was premiered at the Venice Film Festival. In 2007, her second film, ‘Three Women’, was shown in more than 80 international film festivals starting with Berlinale.
Bengali feature film on Rohingya issue screened at KIFF
The film, which has fictional elements, has been inspired by the real life story of a girl whose story was published in a journal.

KOLKATA: A Bengali feature film on Rohingya issue was screened at the 26th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF).
The film Priyo Chinar Pata, Iti Segun (Fire of Teak Flame of Chinar) on a Rohingya refugee has been directed by debutant director Kumar Chowdhury.
The film was made after Chowdhury did research from various publications and other sources about the situation in Myanmar, its repercussions in the neighbourhood region.

Anubhav Sinha was recently in Kolkata to attend the 26th edition of The Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF). The filmmaker was present at the inauguration ceremony of the film festival held on January 8, which was graced by several actors from the Bengali film industry including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Anubhav met Bengali superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee at KIFF and shared a picture with the actor on Instagram but it is the caption which has grabbed the spotlight.
