Silver Fern Farms Co-operative Chairman Rob Hewett said the new role opens up a directorship opportunity on the Co-operative Board which assists in ensuring constructive rejuvenation of its governors.

Co-operative’s ongoing succession plan and ensures active
farmer directors are well equipped to gain governance
“My aspiration is to market New Zealand’s red meat products into the premium markets overseas. “I want to be able to help farmers get the most for their product.” Red meat was second to none, Donald said, and with the shift towards plant-based diets it was imperative the benefits of red meat were highlighted in the marketplace. “What people need is completely provided for by the meat. “With changing diets and food trends we have to get quite crafty at getting that premium product out there.”

“We believe our organisation needs to move towards a more sustainable position,” chief executive Simon Limmer told
Stuff. “If we were assessing this on pure financial grounds, we would be delaying for much longer, but we feel as though it is the right thing to be doing. “These are important initiatives for us so we are moving them up the priority list from where they sat a couple of years ago,” he said. “We are seeing opportunities to move quicker than the 2030 deadline as well, which is what we are hoping to be able to do.”
