Venerable Elle Gunawansa Thero and His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, Archbishop of Colombo speaking to reporters on Wednesday (19) called on the government to postpone this vote. “Are the proposed amendments going to be included after the passage of the bill?,” said the Venerable Thero stressing that dual citizens should never be appointed to the Colombo Port City Commission.

Wednesday, 19 May 2021 - 9:28 The two day debate on the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Bill begins in Parliament today. The vote will be taken on the second day of the debate tomorrow at 4 pm. A special cabinet meeting was held yesterday afternoon to discuss the relevant bill. This was through zoom technology. The Speaker informed Parliament yesterday of the Supreme Court determination with regard to the bill. Full text of the SC determination The government said it would accept the Supreme Court amendments and work towards getting the bill approved with a simple majority in parliament.
