An Oregon man was arrested Friday for reportedly setting a fire off State Route 87.
Adam Gilliam, 29, reportedly admitted to starting a fire with a lighter on 87 near the intersection of State Route 260 on the Mogollon Rim near Blue Ridge, according to the Coconino County Sheriffâs Office.
Passing motorists reported seeing a fire in the forest.
One motorist stopped and attempted to extinguish the fire.
During this process, the witness noticed a suspicious person, later identified as Gilliam, near the fire.
Shortly after, an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper arrived and detained Gilliam.
During the deputyâs interview with Gilliam, he admitted to starting the fire with a lighter he had in his possession.

Coconino County Sheriff’s deputies recovered stolen railroad property west of Williams Tuesday. Deputies were notified by BNSF Police that railroad property was stolen from a work site near the railroad tracks north of Interstate-40 and Welch Road. Several items were missing, including power tools. Investigators received information about the stolen items Tuesday, including the power tools, at a home in Kaibab Estates West north of Ash Fork. Deputies went to the scene and found most of the stolen items. No arrests have been made in the case, however it remains under investigation. Coconino County Sheriff’s investigators are looking into the discovery of human remains after an explosion and fire at a ranch near Seligman last weekend. Deputies responded to an area north of Seligman on the Boquillas Ranch at around 3 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived they saw a camp house on fire and a ranch staff member’s vehicle was parked near a porch. Officials say the remains were found in the house. The causes of death and the fire remain under investigation. The remains were taken to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s office for identification.
