Picture: REINAL CHAND/FILE Natabua High School’s Mereoni Kuru is one of the top bets for the gold medal in the senior girls blue ribbon event during the rescheduled Coca-Cola Games, which is highly likely to be held at Suva’s ANZ Stadium in August. The 17-year-old lass of Vadravadra, Ba with maternal links to Narocake, Noco in Rewa will be making her maiden appearance in the individual sprint events during the Fiji Finals.

Maritime zone meet manager Biu Colati said students should accept the fact that the Coke Games had been cancelled. Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama had announced that all sporting events within the 14 days period have been called off. “We respect the Government’s decision, I know the students were all geared up for the three-day competition but I think keeping Fiji safe is the priority,” he said.

Picture: PAULINI CURUQARA The Fiji Secondary School Athletics Association is hoping to have the Coca-Cola Games in August. President Vuli Waqa said they would have to ask the Government if the games could be held then. He said they had accepted the decision made by the Government to cancel the Coke Games that was scheduled for this Thursday. Waqa said they would adhere to all Government decisions. For ticket holders, he said people should keep it until further notice.
