Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of the Kochi Metro on Saturday. While the rail network holds abundance of salient features, but what can be seen as soul-stirring step is the employment of LGBT community as a part of its operations.
First ferry may be rolled out in February
With the first of the 78 ferries envisaged for the ₹747-crore Water Metro project set to roll out of the Cochin Shipyard in February and scheduled to operate on the Vyttila-Kakkanad route from March, Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) has deputed the Indian Institute of Management-Kozhikode (IIM-K) to conduct a comprehensive survey. It aims at zeroing in on a fare structure for ferries in different corridors in the Greater Kochi area.
The online survey has a dozen critical questions to gauge, including how aware people are aware of Water Metro amenities, their commuting pattern, and many other parameters.

KSRTC bus station to be relocated to Karikamuri
The 2-km extension of the Kochi metro from Pettah to Thripunithura will be completed in 2021-22, Finance Minister Dr. Thomas Isaac said in his budget speech.
Resource mobilisation for the project has been ensured. The construction of the 11-km extension of the metro, from Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium up to the IT hub in Kakkanad too will be carried out at an expenditure of ₹1,957 crore, he added.

The theme of the event is ‘Healthy mobility for healthy life.’ The cyclothon will get underway from the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Metro Station in Kaloor and will wind its way to the venue after covering approximately 12 km through the MG Road and the Metro corridor.
