DOUGLAS, Ariz. A southern Arizona highway was partially closed Sunday morning after a bear climbed a utility pole.
The Arizona Department of Game and Fish said that Highway 191 near Douglas was partially closed for a short time while authorities from several agencies coaxed the bears to come down.
About two dozen people were watching as the bear climbed down on its own.
Authorities from the Douglas Police Department, Cochise County Sheriff’s Office and Border Patrol all helped shoo the bear away and the roadway was reopened.

May 10 U.S. Border Patrol responded to a very different type of crisis Sunday near the Arizona/Mexico border.
A black bear decided to take refuge atop a pair of utility poles along U.S. 191 near the town of Douglas. That s about 120 miles southeast of Tuscon, on the Mexico border.
Arizona Game and Fish Department noted the bear was at risk of being electrocuted, and the animal kept adding to the danger by continuing to adjust itself atop the live wires, photos showed.

MESA, Ariz. (KVOA) - After 22 years, the East Valley Rapist has been arrested on Tuesday in Sierra Vista.
Recently retired Border Patrol agent, John Daly III, 57, was apprehended after being linked to two of the sexual assault cases in Mesa and Gilbert during a DNA report in April 2021.
According to Cochise County Sheriff Mark J. Dannels, between July 1999 to October 2001, there were a series of eight sexual assault cases that had occurred in Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler and Bisbee.
The cases were connected by similar suspect behavior and three of the cases (Mesa, Gilbert and Bisbee) were matched by DNA.

A former border patrol agent has been arrested on suspicion of committing a string of rapes in Arizona.
John Daly III, 57, was apprehended by officers in Sierra Vista on Tuesday on suspicion of committing several sexual assaults two decades ago, a spokesperson for the Mesa Police Department (MPD) said.
Police suspect Daly of having raped eight people in Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler and Bisbee between July 1999 and October 2001.

Dubbed the East Vally serial rapist by the MPD, officers said they had linked Daly to three crimes after they analyzed DNA samples. Officers said there were no leads that could be pursued during the initial investigations.
