A reminder on the importance of both scalable systems and load testing. The recent Philippines' attempt to expand its national ID programme had a number of issues when they introduced a two-factor authentication system. PhilSys, as it is known, started out just fine when registrations began in 2020, when paper forms were still used. This in itself was a little strange as the purpose of the new system was to do away with the need to present physical documents when interacting with government agencies. PhilSys the digital ID system was marketed as such and promised transformation and other buzzwords including easier opening of bank accounts. All of this would also help everyone involved during Covid times. After 28 million paper applications, the digital system was turned on and in the first hour 40,000 people tried to register. The system promptly fell over due to the load and inability to scale quickly. Most IT people will admit to a similar experience in their past, but by 2021 t

Chinese TVs spying on users as reported by this company
Chinese tech products have always had suspicions of tracking on the users. As the Chinese TV brands have started to gain momentum in multiple markets including India and North America, the fear that these TVs might be spying on us is also growing. According to Chinese TV maker Skyworth, their TVs are collecting user data.
Skyworth has blamed a third-party app for the user data collection. The app called Gozen Service came preloaded on their TVs. The application was basically logging and sharing data about all other connected gadgets on the same Wi-Fi network as the TV. Skyworth has apologised for the issue and they have promised that they will be disabling the app with an upcoming OTA update.Â

Chinese television maker Skyworth has issued an apology after a consumer found that his set was quietly collecting a wide range of private data and sending it to a Beijing-based analytics company without his consent.
A network traffic analysis revealed that a Skyworth smart TV scanned for other devices connected to the same local network every 10 minutes and gathered data that included device names, IP addresses, network latency and even the names of other Wi-Fi networks within range, according to a post last week on the Chinese developer forum V2EX.
The data was sent to the Beijing-based firm Gozen Data, the forum user said. Gozen is a data analytics company that specialises in targeted advertising on smart TVs, and it calls itself China‘s first “home marketing company empowered by big data centred on family data”.

Chinese TV Maker Skyworth
In the past week, Chinese smart TV users were surprised to find out that their TVs are gathering and sending out all sorts of information through Gozen Data, a leading Chinese TV analytics company located in Beijing.
This event was first revealed on a forum for tech enthusiasts called V2EX. A post made by a user stated that his Skyworth Smart TV had become slow and started to look into the source code of applications to find out why this was happening. He discovered a piece of software that checks the user s Wi-Fi home network every ten minutes and uploads its findings to Gozen Data s database. Those data strings included information like what smart devices were used in that specific home, whether the owner s phone was there, and who used the Wireless Network.
