Three more Colorado officers placed on administrative leave after violent arrest of 73-year-old woman
Three more Colorado police officers have been placed on administrative leave in connection with the violent arrest of a 73-year-old woman with dementia, according to the Loveland city manager’s office.
Karen Garner was arrested last June for walking out of a Walmart with $13.88 worth of items, according to a lawsuit filed Sunday. Police were called and the arrest left Garner with multiple injuries, including a broken humerus, a dislocated shoulder and a sprained wrist, according to the lawsuit.
The arresting officer, Austin Hopp, was placed on administrative leave. The other officer involved in the arrest, Daria Jalali, was originally reassigned.

9News reports four officers were placed on administrative leave Tuesday. This announcement came a day after Karen Garner s attorney, Sarah Schielke, released a new video showing what happened after Garner was taken into custody. Schielke said the new video shows officers knew of Garner s injuries and failed to provide her with medical attention.
Schielke alleges the video shows the three arresting officers watching the body camera footage of Garner s arrest, laughing, fist-bumping, and celebrating the use of excessive force.

An unidentified student was cited for making threats and displaying a BB gun at Lincoln Middle School on Wednesday, according to a news release from Fort Collins Police Services.
School resource officers investigated the situation and made contact with the student, ultimately determining the weapon displayed was a BB gun, according to the release. The student was cited for interference with staff, faculty or students of an educational institution, a Class 3 misdemeanor. The identity of the student was not made public per juvenile protection laws. The safety of our students and staff is a matter we take seriously, said Sgt. Laura Lunsford, who supervises the SRO program for Fort Collins police. I m grateful for the quick response of SROs and partnership with staff to resolve this situation and minimize disruption to the learning environment.

Officer Austin Hopp was placed on leave earlier this month after a federal lawsuit accused him and a second officer of injuring Karen Garner during the June 26 arrest, which was captured on body camera video.
Garner suffered a dislocated shoulder, fractured arm and sprained wrist after she was slammed to the ground, hogtied and then placed in the back of a police car, according to the suit.
