FD schools collecting miles of pennies | News, Sports, Jobs

kwingert@messengernews.net Schools in the Fort Dodge Community School District are collecting pennies 685,000 of them, to be exact. Through April 16, the FDCSD is hosting its annual Miles of Pennies fundraiser at the five elementary schools and the middle school. The effort started Tuesday. Each school has a different goal and a different use for the funds raised. Pennies or any loose change, really might not mean a lot to a person’s bank account, but to the school district, they can lead to new educational resources. Miles of Pennies challenges students and staff at each school to collect loose change in order to meet their fundraising goal. Each school building keeps 100% of the funds raised, and the Fort Dodge Community Schools Foundation has committed to giving a $100 bonus to each building that reaches its goal.

Apr 5, 2021 “The Rockin’ Tale of Snow White,” the Fort Dodge Middle School seventh and eighth grade musical, will be performed at 7 p.m. on April 15 in the Fort Dodge Middle School auditorium. This funny adaptation of the story of Snow White brings new characters and comedic twists to life as a modern mom reads the Brothers Grimm tale to her restless children. In addition to the well-known cast of the kind princess, evil queen, multiple dwarves and the morally conflicted Huntsman, this musical introduces us to some fresh new faces such as rhyme-happy ladies-in-waiting and a stick-in-the-mud governmental representative out to ruin everyone’s good time.

Mall, housing discussed during webinar | News, Sports, Jobs

cthompson@messengernews.net A center that could house existing Crossroads Mall tenants could be built on the new Corridor Plaza development site, according to Fort Dodge City Manager David Fierke. “That’s under consideration and could be under construction next year,” said Fierke during a Greater Fort Dodge Webinar hosted by the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance on Wednesday. About 50 people registered to attend the meeting virtually. The new owners of the mall are proceeding with the demolition of anchor stores as anticipated. The former Sears and JC Penney stores are already gone. At the same time, work is being done on the UnityPoint Health Clinic Express clinic and Discount Tire Company, both of which are located in the development.
