The Fort McMurray Public School Division is moving all grades at the Fort McMurray Christian School to virtual learning.
From April 12 to 16, all students from the early childhood development program to grade 9 will continue their education from home due to a high number of staff needing to self-isolate.
Currently, 69 per cent of staff and 126 students are in quarantine.
The FMPSD note an individual with ties to the school has also tested positive for the UK variant of concern.
“As these grades move to online learning, the school and Division staff will be able to work out technology-related logistics as needed for students,” said Jennifer Turner, FMPSD Superintendent l.

Multiple public and Catholic schools in Fort McMurray are reporting new COVID-19 cases following the Easter long weekend, with several schools in both divisions reporting variant cases.
The Fort McMurray Public School Division (FMPSD) has 12 new cases across four schools, including seven variant cases. The Fort McMurray Catholic School Division (FMCSD) has eight cases including four variants.

Ecole Dickinsfield has seven new cases, including five COVID-19 variants. Fort McMurray Composite High School and Fort McMurray Islamic School each have two new COVID-19 cases, with one each being a variant. One new case has also been reported at Fort McMurray Christian School.

All 12 COVID-19 cases linked to the outbreak at Cenovus Christina Lake site have recovered, said Alberta Health spokesperson Tom McMillan Sunday.
On Saturday, the site was added to the Government of Alberta’s online data list of current outbreaks.

“The outbreak list was not updated between Dec. 23 and Jan. 5, so some of those recently listed may not currently have active cases,” said McMillan.
Cenovus spokesperson Sonja Franklin said they haven’t had any new cases recently. She said they have been working closely with Alberta Health services and have strong protocols in place. These include daily health screenings, physical distancing, wearing masks, enhanced cleaning and hand washing.
