Some Beaches Fall Short In Litter Study By Eamonn Falvey Grand Canal Dock, Skerries and Killiney have fallen short in the latest litter survey of beaches and harbours.
Dun Laoghaire and Portmarnock beaches were deemed Clean to European Norms’ by business group Irish Business Against Litter.
The River Tolka at Annesley Bridge, meanwhile, has been branded ‘littered’.
40% of 32 coastal areas surveyed countrywide were clean, but there was a rise in ‘littered’ or ‘heavily littered’ areas.

A NATIONWIDE STUDY carried out by Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) has found that the majority of beaches and harbours across Ireland are falling short of receiving ‘clean’ status.
While 40% of 32 coastal areas surveyed were deemed ‘clean to European norms’, there was a rise in areas branded ‘littered’. Cork Harbour at Blackrock Castle and White Bay in Cork, both ‘heavily littered’, were the worst areas surveyed.
