Tiruppur sees 224 cases, the Nilgiris 48
Coimbatore district on Thursday reported 689 new cases of COVID-19. The district on Thursday crossed 70,000 mark in terms of total number of positive cases reported since the onset of the pandemic. Of the 70,262 persons who contracted the disease in the district, 64,202 persons recovered, according to the Health Department.
Coimbatore district had 5,350 active cases as of Thursday and 460 persons recovered from the disease.
The district’s death toll increased to 710 after a 54-year-old woman died at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Tuesday.

Coimbatore district on Saturday crossed the 500-mark in the ongoing second surge of COVID-19. Of the 6,659 persons who underwent COVID-19 test on Saturday, 501 tested positive for the disease, according to the district administration.
A total of 3,677 patients from the district were undergoing treatment for COVID-19 as of Saturday, while 217 persons recovered from the disease and got discharged from hospitals.
The district administration said that 2,44,022 persons from Coimbatore district have taken COVID-19 vaccination, including 9,089 persons who received jabs on Saturday.
District Collector S. Nagarajan on Saturday received the second shot of COVID-19 vaccine from the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. The district had a total of 4,827 beds for COVID-19 patients at various hospitals.

Coimbatore district on Wednesday reported 332 new cases of COVID-19, taking the district’s tally so far to 61,162. The district had 2,767 active cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday while 150 persons got discharged from hospitals and COVID Care Centres after recovering from the disease.
According to the Health Department, a 36-year-old woman with morbid obesity died of COVID-19 at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Monday. She was admitted to the hospital on Sunday. With this, the number of deaths due to COVID-19 in Coimbatore district rose to 696.
The overall tally in Tiruppur district crossed 20,000 with 141 fresh cases being reported on Wednesday. After crossing the 10,000-mark in October last year, the district has added 10,000 cases in six months.
