With the academic year winding down to its final weeks, Kim Glawe â the Temple Independent School Districtâs director of health services â reflected not only on the challenges that were overcome in the midst of COVID-19, but also the school nurses that helped provide students a safe learning environment.
This past year, school nurses in Temple ISD tackled daily COVID-19 screenings, conducted contact tracing and assisted with hundreds of COVID-19 vaccinations.
âThe first thing I said to the nurses at our very first staff meeting was âThank you for not quitting,ââ Glawe told the Telegram. âWhen COVID-19 came about, it brought a challenge to the Temple community and to the Temple school nurses.â
Bell County Public Health Director Amanda Robison-Chadwell announced Monday that she will resign from her position â and the county will soon pause its daily COVID-19 updates as a result.
The district said the daily updates, published by Robison-Chadwell, will stop next week as she prepares to leave for a new job conducting epidemiological research at another organization.
The district said in its statement that Robison-Chadwellâs last day is set for May 24, with district officials working to determine who will replace her.
âI have been fortunate to lead this health district with its talented and dedicated staff,â Robison-Chadwell said. âWhile I am excited to see what the next phase brings, it is bittersweet, and I will miss working with this agency and the multiple partners that we have collaborated with along the way.â
Temple Independent School District trustees Dan Posey, Ronnie Gaines and Sandhya Sanghi will continue to represent their single-member districts after each was sworn in for another three-year term on Monday.
The district canceled its May 1 trustee election for the District 3, District 4 and District 5 seats during its regular board meeting on March 8 â after no one filed to run against the trio.
Posey â reelected by trustees Monday as board president â will begin his fourth full term as a trustee. He was first appointed to the board in 2011 to serve an unexpired term, and was elected to his first three-year term in 2012.
âIt is a great honor to continue to be on the Temple ISD school board,â Posey, who serves the northwestern parts of Temple ISD in District 3, said. âI have enjoyed it immensely and I appreciate the voters of Temple allowing me to continue my service. I look forward to working hard for our students, teachers, staff and our community.â
When Vicky Fashbaugh looks at her artwork, she sees her life journey in every brushstroke.
The Temple native, who is drawn to abstract techniques, emphasized how that artwork is often influenced by her undeniable passion for color.
âI view the world as a color palette,â Fashbaugh said. âWhen Iâm traveling, I look for color harmonies within nature or man-made structures as possible references to my work. I truly never know how a painting might turn out until I sit and mix the paint.â
Fashbaugh, who graduated Saturday night from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, noted how those color harmonies were heightened following the birth of her 10-month-old daughter, Indie Sage Fashbaugh.
