Be sure to check out the new books from breakout stars like Emily Henry and Uzma Jalaluddin, and let these authors play matchmaker for you with their many romance recommendations!

Adding Colour to the Romance Genre

The version of Regency England that viewers are accustomed to, both onscreen and in books, is one that excludes BIPOC and queer characters. Piper Huguley, a Black English professor and author of both contemporary and historical romance that features Black characters, believes that the genre’s popularity and homogeneity come from an unhealthy relationship between publishers and readers. “If a publisher only prints out a certain kind of thing, then the readers are only going to want that,” she says. This leads publishers to believe “that’s what readers want,” adds Cat Sebastian, a white bisexual author who writes queer historical romance. Publishers then acquire similar books often not factoring in the success that many self-published authors are now finding with diverse historical romance.

Amy Chua Defends Herself And Floodgates Open With Alums Calling BS

April 12, 2021 at 4:03 PM Shares19 Discretion is the better part of valor and you shouldn’t f k around lest you find out. These lessons probably should have guided Yale Law’s Amy Chua when she pushed back against the administration’s decision to remove her from a small 1L mentorship group. Honestly, Chua’s “punishment” is almost too insignificant to note. If the administration is correct that the professor continued to bring students to her home after her husband was suspended but not fired over sexual harassment allegations, losing a token group discussion class is the least of what a responsible organization could do.
