Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy ordered notice, returnable in two weeks, to industrialist Gautam Adani-owned Marine Infrastructure Developer Private Ltd., which operates the port in Tiruvallur district and had decided to go for expansion of its handling capacity by over 12 times.

Ethiraj, 51, president of an association of traditional fishermen in Tiruvallur district, had filed the public interest litigation petition stating that the public hearing must be conducted either at the project site or in close proximity so that maximum number of local residents could participate and express their concerns.
