CHS Dark Road One Act team receives awards

Times Report Crookston Times Crookston High School s Dark Road One Act play cast and crew recently received their awards for placing 1st in their subsection and 2nd in the section. City s 2021 street improvement projects boosted by $800K in federal money

$29,000, with Concrete mill and concrete overlay and concrete sidewalk repair on the South Broadway Bridge deck from South Main Street to $350,000 in federal money and $100,000 in state-aid money going toward the cost. There is no assessment tied to this project. Assessments, if impacted property owners prefer, are typically spread out over 10 years and paid along with the City share of property taxes, with a nominal interest rate. Public Works Director Pat Kelly stresses that none of the cost estimates are final as of now, and that when they are completed a public hearing for each project s assessment will be held and impacted property owners will have a chance to ask questions or voice concerns.

Crookston School Board News and Notes January 2021 Crookston Times     The Crookston School Board covered a variety of topics and handled a few business items during their first-of-the-new-year meeting including having re-elected board members take their oaths and the election of officers, the resignation of a significant district position, designating official law firms and media outlets, and ending a contract which means more responsibility for the district. ELECTIONS AND OATHS     Re-elected School Board members Frank Fee, Dave Davidson and Mike Theis took their oaths at the start of the first 2021 meeting at Crookston High School last week. Members of the School Board are elected by the general public of District 593 and board elections are held every two years in the even-numbered years with the November General Election. Three School Board members are then elected at that time for terms of four years each.

After an impactful year, DCDP envisions a big 2021 Mike Christopherson Crookston Times     Leaders of the Downtown Crookston Development Partnership used the Crookston City Council’s final meeting of 2020 this week to offer an update on the big year the DCDP had, and detail things they’re looking to do in 2021 to keep the positive momentum going.     “Our sole goal is to revitalize downtown, so it’s a very limited scope. We go from bridge to bridge to bridge and to the overpass,” DCDP Board member Shirley Iverson said at the podium, joined by fellow board member Jess Bengtson. “We want to generate excitement and make people remember our historic downtown.”

Lynn Oakes retires from the Times/Shopper after 34+ years

Times Report Crookston Times     Lynn (Palmer) Oakes retired from the Crookston Times and Valley Shopper on Dec. 1 after 34-plus years at the Crookston Times.     She started with the Times and Shopper on Oct. 8, 1986, working for Publisher Wes Plummer. Her tenure continued with publishers Skip Narum, Randy Hultgren, and then Don Forney. Oakes was a graphic designer who also worked in pagination and production.     “I have enjoyed working with the public, and of course the many employees I have worked with also,” Oakes says. “It’s a wonderful feeling to be retired, but it’s a new era and I will make some exciting plans as I move forward. Thank you and God bless to you all.”
