Fireworks may have caused house fires in Glendale, Mesa, leave metro Phoenix in a haze Lily Altavena, Arizona Republic © Glendale Fire Department Fireworks caused an attic fire Thursday night, Dec. 31, 2020, at a residence near 43rd and Palo Verde avenues, Glendale fire officials tweeted. Firefighters in Glendale and Mesa say New Year s Eve fireworks are the cause of one housefire and may be the cause of another in metro Phoenix. The Glendale Fire Department tweeted that fireworks ignited an attic fire on Thursday night near 43rd and Palo Verde Avenues. Two people made it out safely but are displaced, according to the agency.
