SA is weighing up whether to pause administration of Johnson & Johnson’s (J&J) Covid-19 vaccine while its safety is investigated, as reports emerge in the US and Europe of rare blood-clotting events that may be associated with the shot.
The government’s national vaccination strategy hinges on two vaccines: J&J’s single-dose shot, and Pfizer-BioNTech’s double-dose jabs, both of which it has planned to roll out at scale within the next few weeks.

A settlement agreement has been reached between the SAHPRA, AfriForum and other parties lobbying for the use of ivermectin.
Doctors may now prescribe ivermectin for Covid-19 thanks to the settlement agreement.
The SAHPRA and minister of health, who is listed as a respondent in the case, were ordered to pay more than R1 million to contribute to the costs of the four applicant groups.
The SA Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) and various parties fighting for the use of ivermectin have reached a settlement agreement for the compounding of and access to the drug.

He says they are going into the market to see what s available.
More than two dozen companies have already been approached.
He stressed that all vaccines have to be approved by the SA Health Products Regulatory Authority. We need to understand what are the dates national government is bringing in and how do we fill up in between. That process is underway.
Health authorities are calling on everyone to play their part to try and delay a resurgence of infections.
