The Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT) is calling for a direct financial support package geared towards the tourism sector to save 2-2.5 million jobs as the third wave shows no signs of abating.
Chamnan Srisawat, president of the TCT, said council members want more relaxation on soft loans and is asking the Thai Credit Guarantee Corporation to help because most operators do not have land or assets to use as collateral.
The monthly salary co-payment scheme is another urgent financial aid that could prevent mass layoffs.
If the government fails to take this proposal into consideration, the hospitality sector will risk losing skilled workers and competitiveness in the global arena when international tourism resumes.

The Association of Domestic Travel (ADT) is urging the government to hasten the vaccination programme and deliver on tourism stimulus after a collapse of the domestic travel segment.
Thanapol Cheewarattanaporn, ADT president, said vaccinations represent the ultimate solution to prevent a future outbreak, which also supports the growth of domestic tourism.
He said it will take until June at the earliest to gradually rebuild travel confidence, assuming daily infections are less than 500 cases.

The government s domestic tourism goal of 200 million trips this year is achievable, though it depends on state support via more stimulus plans, says the Association of Domestic Travel (ADT).
Operators would like the government to flatten the infection rate curve from the hundreds daily to double digits or even a single digit by February, in order to revive travel confidence, said ADT president Thanapol Cheewarattanaporn.
The goal is to revive interprovincial trips by March, starting with low-risk areas, he said.

Travel operators have encouraged the government to tighten border controls and conduct more tests before a resurgence of the coronavirus blows away tourism in the New Year season.
As well as making efforts to control borders, the government has to implement more stringent measures to guard against the trafficking gangs who bring illegal migrant workers into the country, said Thanapol Cheewarattanaporn, president of the Association of Domestic Travel (ADT).
He suggested the government should conduct tests on migrant workers as well as Thais who work in industrial areas in the Central region.
