Delta State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has backed Southern Governors on restructuring and ban on open grazing of cattle in the southern part of the country.
ALGON chairman in the state, who is also the Chairman of Ika North East Local Government Area, Mr Victor Ebonka, while briefing journalists at the monthly meeting on Thursday, said: “Southern farmers are losing hundreds of millions of naira to the plundering of food crops through encroachments on farmlands and exposing the region to famine and acute food scarcity.”

The Federal Government has established 20 new Federal Marriage Registries across the country in a bid to bring Federal Marriage Registry closer to the grassroots.
Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola disclosed this Friday in Abuja at a National Stakeholders’ Conference on the Administration and Conduct of Statutory Marriage in Nigeria.
According to him, efforts are ongoing to have Federal Marriage Registries in all the State Capitals of the Federation.
A statement issued by the ministry’s Department of Press and Public Relations and signed by Towoju Raphael added that the Minister was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Shuaib Belgore.
In the lead judgment by Justice Ejembi Eko, the Supreme Court said Governor Makinde’s sacking of 33 LG chairmen and 35 Local Government Development Areas in the state was beyond his powers.
Justice Eko noted that the governor’s dissolution of democratically elected chairmen and councillors and replacing them with caretakers was taken despite a subsisting court order and a breach of Section 7(1) of the 1999 Constitution.
Consequently, it invoked its original jurisdiction under Section 22 of the Supreme Court Act and voided the earlier judgment of the Court of Appeal, which had validated Governor Makinde’s action on the grounds that the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) had no reasonable cause of action.
