The Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) has succeeded in its efforts to bring Olympic middleweight qualifier Eumir Felix Marcial to the United States Olympic Boxing Training Center in Colorado Springs for the last stage of his preparations for Tokyo.
Marcial was supposed to fly directly to Thailand after the ongoing Asian Championships in Dubai but the plan hit a snag because of Visa issues (Thailand now requires Visas of all foreign visitors because of the pandemic).
The other Filipino Olympians have been training in Bangkok since March.
ABAP secretary-general Ed Picson said they learned that there will be a multi-nation training camp in Colorado Springs with the 6 American Olympic qualifiers and several other countries.

Thirdy Ravena fulfilled his promise to help Eumir Marcial by sending the Olympic-bound boxer a pair of shoes and supplements.
Marcial expressed gratitude towards Ravena after receiving a pair of Nike training shoes, two large bottles of whey and eight small bottles of vitamins.
“I want to thank Thirdy for taking the time to provide me this new pair of shoes and some supplements which will be very helpful for my training for the Olympics,” Marcial said in a Facebook post Friday, May 21.
“Support even as simple as these can be very significant and is capable of boosting our morale as athletes. This stands as a proof that support need necessarily not to be in the form of money and that sometimes, as simple as a message of support could already go a long way. Mabuhay ka idol,” he added.

In the eyes of national boxing team consultant Donald Abnett, it’s still a long way when it comes to the conditioning as well as the fighting form for Tokyo Olympics-bound boxer Eumir Marcial.
The 59-year-old Australian made his comments Tuesday, May 11, as the boxing coaching staff advised Marcial to join the national team in its bubble training camp in Thailand.
“It’s far less from what we’ve expected. It’s a bit of a concern,” said Abnett as he appeared on the online Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum with Filipino coach Ronald Chavez from their training camp in Muaklek, which is a two-hour drive from the capital city Bangkok.
Eumir Marcial heading to Thailand to gear up for Tokyo Olympics
Olympic-bound Eumir Marcial is set to join the training bubble of Filipino boxers in Thailand, following the conclusion of the ASBC Asian Elite Men and Women Boxing Championships in late May.
According to Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) secretary-general Ed Picson, the professional boxer relayed the message recently while training in Zamboanga under the auspices of national team coach Gerson Nietes. I think it s a good decision. Actually, I ve been trying to get him to Thailand even when he was in the U.S. A [Thai] visa was already sent there to the L.A. consulate, but he decided not to pick it up so we re applying him another visa, explained Picson in Tuesday s online Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum.
