BYRAM, NEW JERSEY, A little over two years ago, the Boy Scouts of America (“BSA”) opened up membership in its flagship program, the “Boy Scouts” (11-17 years old) to young women and rebranded it to “Scouts BSA.” The response has been enormous with troops of young women forming throughout the United States, and scouts advancing through the ranks. One such troop, Troop 1150, is chartered to Sparta United Methodist Church and has close to thirty
five Scouts, who are actively engaged in the Scouting program, which includes,
inter alia, hiking, camping, aquatics, leadership and community service.

Glenn Dixon
Glenn Dixon’s first volunteer experience with Special Olympics Delaware was 30 years ago when he was a young state trooper, among more than 100 runners participating in the annual Law Enforcement for Special Olympics Torch Run. It’s a yearly ritual he continues to this day.
However, the next time Dixon carries the flame of hope, he will bear the title of Winnie Spence Torch Runner of the Year.
“I was totally surprised and so honored,” said Dixon, who retired in January as a captain with Delaware State Police. “It means so much to me, especially for what SODE represents. I’m fortunate to be a part of supporting the great athletes who represent the goodness in society and receive the support of so many throughout the community.”

Aspiring electrician KyZei Vester has replaced bad receptacles, exchanged faulty breakers, and wired everything from townhouses to million-dollar beach mansions with elevators. And she’s only a senior at Sussex Tech High School.
Vester, of Lewes, is participating in the school’s work-based learning program, which places students into jobs in their career fields for part of their senior year. It opens up a new world to Sussex Tech students who choose to specialize in one of 17 career-technical fields. Vester is enrolled in the electrical and green energy program under instructor T.J. Dukes.
