An Abeokuta High Court, on Tuesday, sentenced two ex-convicts to death by hanging for conspiracy and armed robbery.
At their trial, Lekan Akinola, 40, and Dare Sowunmi, 27, had pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery levelled against them.
However, delivering her judgment, Justice Ayokunle Rotimi-Balogun, said that the court was convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that the ex-convicts were guilty as charged.
Rotimi-Balogun held that all evidence presented by the prosecution was admissible and the punishment for the offence of armed robbery was death.

The ex-convicts entered into the apartment of one Derin Adebiyi and robbed him of his money and other valuables.

The
Nigeria Customs Service, Apapa Area Command, says it has intercepted pangolin scales and other mixed endangered species meant for export, worth N952 million.
Mohammed Abba-Kura, Customs Comptroller, said at a media briefing on Tuesday in Lagos that the items were contained in a one-unit 20-feet container with number CSLU 2362640 heading to Haiphong, Vietnam.
He said the items, falsely declared as furniture, comprised 162 sacks of pangolin scales weighing 8,800kg and 57 sacks of mixed endangered species of various sizes such as ivory/animal horns, lion bones and others.

Members of House of Representatives, policymakers and stakeholders drawn from the oil and gas sector will, on Wednesday, converge at the National Assembly to make inputs into the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).
The public hearing was initiated by the Ad-hoc Committee on PIB chaired by Hon Mohammed Monguno.
Tribune Online gathered that both Senate and House had reached a compromise to hold separate public hearings on the bill, after the retreat held in Lagos last week.
Recall that the House had on Thursday, July 23, 2020, concluded debate on the general principle on PIB, which seeks to provide for legal, governance, a regulatory and fiscal framework for the Nigerian Petroleum Industry, the development of Host Communities and for related matters.
