Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay Says Impeahcment Vote May Be Needed

By Dave Smith May 11, 2021 Albany, N.Y. - Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay believes the Assembly Committee on Judiciary, who is working on the impeachment proceedings against Governor Cuomo, are dragging their heels. Barclay says with all the alarming stories outlining misconduct have emerged almost daily, the Committee has held only two public meetings neither of which mentioned any specifics, and another meeting hasn’t even been scheduled according to Barclay. Barclay said unless things improve regarding the pace and progress, the direct approach of an up or down vote on impeachment may be the only thing able to produce a tangible result.

Top Republican: Don t Drag Out Impeachment Investigation

PUBLISHED 5:53 AM ET Mar. 12, 2021 PUBLISHED 5:53 AM EST Mar. 12, 2021 SHARE Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay is urging the Assembly Committee on Judiciary to move quickly on the impeachment investigation reviewing alleged misconduct by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.  “The Committee on Judiciary’s investigation cannot be used as a mechanism to buy more time,” Barclay wrote. “We have a budget to develop, a public health crisis to deal with, and the state’s economic recovery to advance. Andrew Cuomo no longer has the trust and credibility to serve as governor of this state. An impeachment investigation is a significant step. But, Assembly Democrats must acknowledge that time is of the essence and that time has run out on Andrew Cuomo.”

New York Assembly starts impeachment probe into Cuomo

ALBANY — The Assembly Judiciary Committee will begin an impeachment investigation against Gov. Andrew Cuomo after city police contacted executive officials over a new accusation that the governor sexually assaulted an unnamed aide. A current female aide alleges Cuomo aggressively groped her in the Governor’s Mansion last year after she was summoned to the residence to help fix a technical error with the governor’s cell phone, according to a Wednesday report in the Albany Times Union. The staff member, whose identity was not disclosed, claims she and the governor were alone in Cuomo’s private residence on the second floor when he closed the door and allegedly reached under her blouse and began to fondle her.
