Director of Public Prosecutions, Jack Karczewski QC will be taking extended personal leave from Wednesday 30 June 2021 with the view of stepping back from his role to retirement later in the year.
Mr Karczewski has dedicated the last 37 years of his career to justice in the Northern Territory. He began employment with the Prosecutions Division of the Northern Territory Department of Law in June 1984 and was admitted to practice as a Legal Practitioner of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory in August 1984. He was appointed Senior Crown Prosecutor for the Northern Territory in September 1991. He transferred to the Policy Division in the Attorney-General’s department in December 1993 and was employed as a policy law officer until November 1997. The Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos has dismissed an appeal filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to challenging the order directing it to unfreeze the accounts of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mike Ozhekome.
The appellate court in a unanimous judgement delivered by Justice Chidi Nwaoma Uwa held that the appeal lacks merit.
Justice Tunde Awotoye and James Abundaga are the two other members of the panel.
