The Minister for the Public Service and Administration, Senzo Mchunu, has appointed a task team to assist government through the National School of Government (The NSG), to finalise the National Implementation Framework towards the Professionalisation of the Public Service.
In December 2020, Mchunu released the draft National Implementation Framework towards the Professionalisation of the Public Service for public comment. This followed the Cabinet approval of the publication of the draft framework, which is in line with the commitment made by the sixth administration to create a capable, ethical and developmental public service.
The minister initiated a public consultation process with the key stakeholders from various organisations and institutions inside and outside the public sector early this year. Health Departmentâs R105bn headache

Durban - The National Department of Health is facing legal claims of more than R105 billion for medical negligence involving law firms whose clients are dissatisfied with the amount of money due to them from the court settlement amounts.
Health portfolio committee chairperson Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo said litigations had left the department with a liability of about R26bn, while Minister Zweli Mkhize told the committee that the department had settled R500 million of the claims last year.
The auditor-generalâs 2019-2020 report revealed in March this year that the government was facing litigation claims totalling R147.12bn. Most of the claims, R105bn, were related to medical negligence.
Client faces retrial after lawyer admits to being âvery drunkâ

Pretoria - A private lawyer who represented a fraud accused in a Limpopo magistrateâs court while âvery drunkâ has caused her client to now face trial again.
The High Court in Limpopo, sitting in Polokwane, said the trial of Martin Mugera was not in accordance with justice due to his lawyerâs conduct. He had to be retried, the court said.
Judge MF Kganyago said the conduct and behaviour of the lawyer, only identified in his judgment as Ms Maloko, was an issue of concern as it was not expected from an officer of the court.
