A city-bound IndiGo flight was diverted to Hyderabad, while a SpiceJet flight was diverted to Surat, due to the suspension of air services at the airport, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) said in the statement on Monday.

Two barges with 410 people on board have gone adrift off the Mumbai coast as the cyclonic storm Tauktae over the Arabian Sea intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm and is expected to reach Gujarat coast this evening, officials said. On receipt of a request for assistance for Barge P305 adrift off Heera Oil Fields in Bombay High area with 273 personnel onboard, warship INS Kochi was sailed with a despatch for Search and Rescue (SAR) assistance, a Navy spokesperson said.

MUMBAI: The operations at the city s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will remain suspended from 11.00 am till 2.00 pm on Monday in view of the cyclone alert, the private airport has notified.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, warning of very heavy rains at isolated places with strong winds on Monday as cyclone Tuaktae is likely to pass close to the Mumbai coast.
A powerful cyclone is moving towards India’s western coast as authorities attempt to evacuate hundreds of thousands of people.
Cyclone Tauktae, which has already killed six people in parts of southern India, is expected to make landfall on Monday evening in Gujarat state with winds of up to 109mph, the India Meteorological Department said.
Forecasters warned of possible extensive damage from high winds, heavy rainfall and flooding in low-lying areas.

The massive storm comes as India is battling with a devastating coronavirus surge. The storm has already led to the suspension of some vaccination efforts and there is greater risk of virus transmission in crowded evacuation shelters.
