THE DEVICE FOUND BY THE LAKESIDE CENTER WAS IDENTIFIED AS A LIVE PIPE BOMB. FIRE IN THE HOLE! (áááRHEYAááá) BOMB EXPERTS BLEW IT UP LATE THIS MORNING. MORE THAN A DOZEN ANKENY RESIDENTS HAD ALREADY STOPPED BY THE LAKESIDE CENTER TO VOTE WHEN IT WAS FOUND. POLL WORKERS CALLED POLICE WHO THEN CALLED THE ATF AND THE BOMB SQUAD. THE POLLING PLACE WAS EVACUATED AND ELECTION OFFICIALS DIRECTED VOTERS TO ANOTHER POLLING LOCATION. TONIGHT - POLICE ALSO SAID THERE HAVE BEEN NO OTHER PIPE BOMBS OR DEVICES FOUND OR REPORTED IN THE CITY.

(WVIR) - A suspicious object was discovered and detonated by police on Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall early Saturday morning. The Charlottesville Fire and Police Departments were contacted about a suspicious device just before 6 a.m. in the 100 block of 4th Street SE. After securing the area and investigating, the Virginia State Police were called in for a controlled detonation of the device. The remains of the object are being examined in the VSP Division of Forensic Science to determine what exactly it was.

February 19, 2021   Update from Carlton County Sheriff’s Office: In the afternoon hours of Friday, Feb. 19th, bomb squad personnel responded to a suspicious device on the 3200 block of Ditchbank Road in Perch Lake Township. After careful examination, it was determined that the device was not an explosive agent. During the incident, forty residences were evacuated within a ½ mile radius of the device. A temporary shelter was set up and available for the people that were evacuated. At this time, anyone that was evacuated may return to their homes.
