LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) â A virtual symposium organized by the Chabad at UK Jewish Student Center Sunday aimed to educate attendees on the growing tide of antisemitism on college campuses across the country, including the University of Kentucky.
The event, which was sponsored by several organizations including the UK Student Government Association and the New Zionist Congress, came in the wake of a series of antisemitic incidents reported around the University of Kentucky.
Late last month, for example, the student center captured surveillance video of a group of people throwing bottles at the center.
This rabbi got Kentucky to adopt an anti-Semitism resolution. But not all Jews are happy.
Rabbi Shlomo Litvin said the resolution may stanch a wave of anti-Semitic incidents in Lexington, Kentucky. Critics worry it could be used to silence free speech by those who criticize Israel.

(RNS) Rabbi Shlomo Litvin was hosting a menorah lighting outside the University of Kentucky’s Jewish Student Center on the third night of Hanukkah last year when a driver shouting anti-Semitic slurs pulled up, grabbed one of the participants, dragged him down the block and ran over his leg.
Tonight, as we were preparing to light the Menorah for the third night of Chanukah, a community member was assaulted outside the Chabad House.
A car pulled up, nearly hitting the volunteer camera crew and the driver began yelling abusive language. A community member who was assisting in the lighting heroically stepped between the assailant and the Chabad house as several children were in the front room.
The attacker grabbed the man and held his arm, dragging him for a block, and running over his leg. The car then sped off.
We appreciate the quick response of the Lexington Police Department, and EMS, and the attention paid to this by law enforcement.
Chabad at UK Jewish Student Center
A member of the Chabad of the Bluegrass community proved Saturday night that he is made of stern stuff.
He refused to be evacuated for treatment until after the public menorah was lit, even after he was dragged a distance by an antisemitic driver holding his arm while accelerating his vehicle, and then his leg was run over by that same vehicle.

Here’s what happened.
A man “using foul language” drove his vehicle up to the group of people who were gathered at the UK Jewish Student Center in Lexington at around 7 pm Saturday night to celebrate Chanukah and light the public menorah with Chabad of the Bluegrass’s Rabbi Shlomo Litvin.
