The Rapid City Council will convene for a special session on Monday to review potential uses for an about twenty-million dollar surplus in the city’s general fund. According to Mayor Steve Allender, the surplus is from previously budgeted funds and COVID relief funds still unspent. Council members will hear from the City’s 12 Department Directors on potential projects the funds could go towards. “The Council has full authority to do what they wish within the confines of state law. So they can keep it in the bank, they can invest it, they can put it all into one thing or all into many things or just spend a portion of it,” Allender said.

(KMIZ) Boone County leaders will be updating residents on the future of health orders Monday. The most recent national guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are relaxing restrictions for people who are fully vaccinated. Local leaders have relied on guidelines from the CDC since the start of the pandemic. The current Columbia/Boone County health order mandates masks while inside and for people within 6 feet of each other outside. The most recent CDC guidance suggests, whether vaccinated or not, people may walk, run, or bike outdoors with members of their household. People who have not gotten the coronavirus vaccine can also attend small, outdoor gatherings safely provided that they wear a mask.
