Officials of the Hindu Religious and Charitable and Endowments Department said devotees wore masks while entering the shrines in view of rise in COVID-19 cases and defaulters were advised to put them on.
Several devotees offered worship at Srirangam Ranganathaswamy Temple, Samayapuram Arulmigu Mariamman Temple, Rockfort Thayumanaswamy Temple, Akilandeswari Jambukeswarar Temple, Tiruvanaikoil, and Vekkaliamman Temple at Woraiyur in Tiruchi, among others.

A water tank installed along Tiruchi-Chennai National Highway for the convenience of devotees visiting Samayapuram is in a state of disuse now.
Amenities inadequate
For the devotees visiting Samayapuram Arulmigu Mariamman Temple in large numbers, basic amenities have not been adequate. Though the hundi collections are huge, the devotees struggle due to paucity of rest rooms and drinking water facilities. Much to the chagrin of pilgrims, water tanks at stoppages for mofussil buses on either side of the national highway have been in a state of disuse for a long period. It would bode well for National Highways Authority of India to rectify the shortcomings at the earliest.
