In accordance with a directive of President Biden, Governor Janet Mills has ordered the United States and State of Maine flags to be lowered to half-staff on Saturday, May 15, in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day.
This Peace Officers Memorial Day we remember the local, state, and federal peace officers who have died defending the rule of law. The law to them was, as it is to us, a promise, a guiding principal governing how we treat one another and preserve the peace of our communities. Today, let us remember to care for one another, on and off duty, in memory of those who sacrificed their lives in service to our state and let us recommit to being the best individuals we can be – the most civil in our common humanity and the most caring of our human community.
