Solano board acknowledges Peace Officers Memorial Day
FAIRFIELD The Solano County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday recognized May 15 as the 59th annual commemoration of Peace Officers Memorial Day and recognized May 9-15 as National Police Officer Appreciation Week in Solano County.
The last peace officer in Solano County to die in the line of duty was California Highway Patrol Officer Kirk “Hollywood” Griess on Aug. 10, 2018.
Griess was 46. He left behind a wife, Keri, daughters, Kadi and Kaci, and son, Kole. The former Marine is buried in the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery near Dixon.

Joe Biden issued a proclamation in recognition of National Police Week and Police Officer Memorial Day, May 9-15, 2021. It is an annual statement made by the president. Biden’s statement, though, took a knee to extremists in the Democrat Party. He included a qualifying message to his words of support for law enforcement.
The proclamation began by delivering standard remarks about the dangers faced each day by police and their wide range of duties. He acknowledged those who lost their lives in the line of duty. Then he went into the difficulties that have arisen during the economic demands of the pandemic, with local and state officials having to stretch their budgets and sometimes reduce services.

PROVIDENCE The Rhode Island Police Chiefs’ Association is honoring fallen officers from near and far during National Police Week this week.
National Police Week takes place this year from May 9-15 and is observed across the country as a way to honor local, state and federal law enforcement officers who have died or been disabled in the line of duty.
In honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day on Saturday, May 15, Police from across Rhode Island will join agencies nationwide in flying its flags at half-staff to honor officers who have given their lives in service to their communities.
