Around 9:10 p.m. on Monday, April 4, DPS Troopers responded to a major crash involving a truck tractor semi-trailer and a pick-up truck in the area of SH-26, 0.1 mile south of Burgundy Lane. Authorities say a 2007 Dodge Ram pickup, operated by 59-year-old Dena Self Montgomery of Temple, was traveling south on SH-36 near Burgundy Lane. A 2009 Peterbilt truck tractor semi-trailer, operated by a 56-year-old man from Houston, was traveling north on SH-36 approaching the Dodge Ram.

Authorities identify Temple motorist killed in Highway 36 accident

A Temple woman was killed Sunday night in a collision between a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer on State Highway 36, authorities said. Dena Self Montgomery, 59, was killed when her 2007 Dodge Ram pickup collided with a 2009 Peterbilt tractor-trailer driving by a Houston man, Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Bryan Washko said. The accident occurred at about 9:10 p.m. on Highway 36, just south of Burgandy Lane. Washko said Montgomery was traveling south on the highway when her truck crossed into the northbound land and collided with the tractor-trailer. Montgomery was pronounced dead at the scene by Bell County Justice of the Peace Cliff Coleman.

Belton man charged with two counts of indecency with a child

A Belton man was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of indecency with a child, both second-degree felonies. Samuel Neal Kennedy, 46, was arrested at his home by members of the Bell County Sheriff’s Department Special Crimes Unit after a warrant was issued by Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Cliff Coleman. Kennedy was in custody at the Bell County Jail Thursday afternoon. His bond is recommended at $175,000. Investigators said Kennedy retired from the U.S. Army as a sergeant in December 2016. During his enlistment, he was investigated at least six times for sexual abuse offenses involving minor children, according to a news release from Lt. Bob Reinhard of the Bell County Sheriff’s Department.
