Ben R. Rechter, a Nashville businessman and philanthropist whose background included work in civil rights, education, nonprofits and the arts, died on May 7. He was 83.
Rechter was the former president and CEO of Rogers Group Investments Inc., a co-founder of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee and board member of multiple entities, including as chair of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce.
CFMT honored Rechter and other founders of the entity with the Joe Kraft Humanitarian Award in 2001. In 2016, he shared the initial Bridge to Equality Award along with his close friend, the late Francis Guess, for their efforts to create equal opportunity in Nashville.

Rechter served on numerous boards and organizations throughout Nashville including Fisk University, United Way of Middle Tennessee, the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, WLPN Education Foundation, Cumberland Museum & Science Center, Nashville Symphony, Nashville Public Television and The National Museum of African American Music.
Rechter was president of Rogers Group Investments Inc. and was a founder and previous board chair at the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. It is hard to imagine how many lives he has touched,” Ellen Lehman, the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee president, said in a press release.
Finance and technology advisory firm MorganFranklin Consulting has announced the opening of offices in Nashville and Raleigh.
Locally, MorganFranklin is taking space with Brentwood-based Vaco, which bought the firm in 2019. MorganFranklin is the global consulting platform of Vaco, a personnel services firm that provides consulting, contract and direct hire solutions to more than 40 markets.
A release notes the MorganFranklin office is expected to be home to between 20 to 25 employees by yearâs end. Eric Smetana, Zac Stark and Brandon Nelson are co-leading the office.
MorganFranklin, headquartered in the Washington, D.C. area, also has regional offices and presence across the United States. The company supports clients worldwide.

MURFREESBORO “The Big Payback is a 24-hour online giving event that helps organizations like the Child Advocacy Center raise funds and bring awareness to their cause,” said Development Coordinator Katie Enzor.
The Child Advocacy Center and other Middle Tennessee non-profit agencies are participating in the 2021 Big Payback. This is the 8th year that the annual event has been hosted. It begins on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. and continues until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2021.
The Big Payback, hosted by The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, is a community-wide giving day which shines a spotlight on local giving and motivates Middle Tennessee to “give back” to nonprofits in a big way. The Community Foundation’s mission is to “to promote and facilitate giving in the 40 counties of Middle Tennessee and beyond.”
