The federal government announced funding Thursday for five organizations in the riding of Nipissing-Timiskaming as part of an effort to address gender-based violence during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Elizabeth Fry Society of Northeastern Ontario – $47,000
Crisis Centre North Bay (Four Elms Emergency Shelter) – $35,000
Nipissing Transition House – $35,000
Mattawa Women’s Resource Centre – $35,000
Community Counselling Centre of Nipissing – $15,000
“These shelters are very important resources in our riding,” Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Anthony Rota said in a statement.
“Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, gender-based violence, including sexual abuse and exploitation, and intimate partner violence was far too common. This unprecedented time has brought with it challenges that many organizations could not manage alone.”
