Humane Society sees influx of adoptions amidst pandemic

By Ryann Scheib Thomas Park / Unsplash Even with the pandemic forcing adoptions to be ran by appointment only, the Humane Society of London & Middlesex (HSLM) was still able to exceed their usual amount of pet adoptions for the year. Claire Belsheim, the Marketing and Community Engagement Coordinator at HSLM believes that the influx is by result of more people working from home and wanting a furry co-worker. “They feel like this would be a really good time to adopt because they’re home more. They can spend more time with the pet, do training and those types of things” Belsheim explains.

Salvation Army Red Kettles Waiting For Your Donations

Salvation Army Red Kettles Waiting For Your Donations COVID-19 has cancelled a lot of things this year including many fundraisers for non profit agencies like the Yakima Salvation Army. Lisa Sargent is the Community Engagement Coordinator who says they hope to collect a majority of the money they use for programs and services through 22 red kettles that are now at many locations around the Yakima area. She says because of the pandemic they ve not been able to get the number of volunteers they need at the red kettles which means they have to rely on paid staff members to ring the bells. That means not all the money they make can be used for programs and services. Each year the Salvation Army raises more than $100,000 through the Red Kettle campaign.
