DEERFIELD, IL A 45-year-old Deerfield man that once served as the executive director of a North Shore nonprofit disabled children has been charged with stealing more than $800,000 from the organization and using it for personal expenses and credit card payments, federal prosecutors said Thursday.
Stuart Nitzkin was charged in federal court with one count of wire fraud. According to charging documents, Nitzkin defrauded Organization A, which prosecutors described as being one that is committed to empowering physically disabled children to participate in physical and psychological rehabilitation through sports, federal prosecutors alleged.
That report, by the Chicago Appleseed Center for Fair Courts, the Chicago Council of Lawyers and the Civic Federation, stipulated that the clerk “did not respond to several requests for a meeting or an invitation to participate in a virtual community forum in connection with this progress report.” Most of its findings were from talking to executive staff in the office, as well as media reports and conversations with practitioners, advocates and litigants.
The report notes Martinez is working with the Civic Consulting Alliance, a pro bono consulting firm that often works with local governments, on a scope of work to audit the office s operations.
