WESTERN SPRINGS, IL Western Springs saw a decrease in its coronavirus case rate last week, according to the Cook County Public Health Department. The three previous weeks, it saw hikes in its rate.
As of Sunday, Western Springs had 1,177 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 33 from a week earlier, or a 2.9 percent hike. The week before, the village experienced a 3.4 percent increase.
The number of Western Springs virus-related deaths remained the same at four, with the last one reported as being on Nov 21, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner s Office. That s a mortality rate of less than 1 percent. All the local deaths have been those who were 58 or older, according to the county medical examiner.

As of Sunday, Western Springs had 1,106 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 34 from a week earlier, or a 3.2 percent hike. Each of the two previous weeks, the village saw 2.7 percent hikes.
