Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot suggested that the shooting stemmed from a low-level traffic offense. Video shows an officer firing as Alvarez flees, then Alvarez falling to the ground and dropping what authorities identified as a gun.

Tactical officers from the Chicago Police Department tried to stop and speak with Alvarez in the early morning hours in Portage Park, COPA said Wednesday. A tactical respose report released with the video and audio footage indicates police were trying to conduct an investgatory stop at the time.
Alvarez, who was familiar to the officers, fled as they approached, COPA said.
Police previously said Alvarez, a father of a 2-year-old, allegedly brandished a gun, which led to a confrontation with police, according to the FOX32 Chicago.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL Western Springs saw a decrease in its coronavirus case rate last week, according to the Cook County Public Health Department. The three previous weeks, it saw hikes in its rate.
As of Sunday, Western Springs had 1,177 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 33 from a week earlier, or a 2.9 percent hike. The week before, the village experienced a 3.4 percent increase.
The number of Western Springs virus-related deaths remained the same at four, with the last one reported as being on Nov 21, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner s Office. That s a mortality rate of less than 1 percent. All the local deaths have been those who were 58 or older, according to the county medical examiner.
